- Course Structure -

Core Subjects

Every Bachelor degree student at Bond is required to complete at least one subject from each of the following four discipline clusters

Communication (1)

  • Communication Skills
  • Public Speaking

Outcomes: To communicate effectively in writing, speaking and visual; to understand the nature of communication processes and sources of difficulty in communication.

Information Technology (1)

  • Information Technology 1
  • Information technology 2

Outcomes: To work effectively with contemporary information technology; to evaluate critically the current and future role of computing technology in the storage, retrieval and processing of information.

Values (1)

  • Cultural and Ethical Values
  • Contemporary Issues in Law and Society

Outcomes: To appreciate the foundation of moral, ethical and social theories and their relevance to issues of public concern and debate; to use theoretical ideas in formulating arguments about how particular issues should be resolved.

Organisations (1)

  • Strategic Management
  • Entrepreneurship

Outcomes: To appreciate the natural, dynamic and strategic positioning of organisations within their environments; to appreciate the nature of effective work in groups.

Foundation Subjects (7)

Students must complete the following 7 subjects:

  • Business Law
  • Business Statistics
  • Information Systems Development
  • Introduction to Accounting
  • Marketing
  • Organisational Behaviour
  • Principles of Economics

Majors (1)

Students must complete one of the approved majors from the following areas:

Business Information Systems (5)

Students must complete:

  •  Information Systems Management
  • Enterprise Resource Management

Plus 3 subjects from the following:

  •  Database Management 1
  •  Electronic Commerce 1
  • Introduction to Intelligent Systems
  • Business Intelligence and Data Warehousing
  •  Information Technology and the Law

OR Business Law (5)

Students must choose 5 subject from the following:

  • Business Associations
  • Corporations Law

  • Principle of Tax Law
  • Taxation of Business Entities
  • Taxation of International Business
  • Banking and Finance Law
  • International Trade & Business Law

OR Electronic Commerce (5)

Students must complete:

  • Electronic Commerce 1
  • Electronic Commerce 2
  • The Internet and Marketing

Plus 2 subjects from the following:

  • Web Site Development
  • Internet Technology 1
  • Advertising and Promotion on the Internet
  • Electronic Commerce and the Law

OR Entrepreneurship (5)

Students must complete:

  • Growth Strategies for Entrepreneurship Ventures
  • Business Plan Development
  • Financing Entrepreneurship Ventures

Plus 2 subjects from the following:

  • Professionalising the Family Business
  • Negotiation
  • Creativity & Innovation

OR International Business (5)

Students must complete:

  • International Trade
  •  Introduction to Cross Cultural Management

Plus 3 subjects from the following:

  • International Marketing
  • Global Business Strategy
  • Special Topic: International Study Tour

OR Management (5)

Students must complete 5 of the following:

  • Advanced Topics in Human Resource Management

OR Marketing (5)

Students must complete:

OR Marketing Communication

Students must complete:

  • Human Communication
  • Advertising Principles and Practice OR Public Relations Practice and Event Management

Plus 3 subjects from:

  • Promotional Design & Planning
  • Public Relations Campaigns & Strategies
  • Public Relations Writing
  • Media Relations
  • Direct Response Advertising
  • Media Planning & Buying
  • Advertising, Brand Image & Cultural Space

OR Real Estate

Students must complete the following 5 subjects:

  • Contemporary Issues in Urban Development
  • Principles of Project Management
  • Assets and Facilities Management
  • Construction Management Techniques
  • Introduction to Valuation

Advanced Discipline Subjects (4)

Students must complete 4 of the following 5 subjects:

  • Cost Management Systems
  • Human Resource Management
  • Introduction to Finance
  • Introduction to International Business
  • Market Research Analysis

Electives (4)

Four subjects may be selected from any faculty within the University. Students are encouraged to undertake a second major by completing a minimum of four additional subjects from the majors offered in the Bachelor of Commerce and the Bachelor of Business, with at least two of these subjects at the 300 level.
