Living Cost for International Students in Sydney Australia

Cost in other Australian cities is generally less that what is noted here; however this will give you a general idea what your personal expenses will be.

 

Sydney

The Australia Government suggest that International Students allow funds of approximately A$12,000 to A$15,000 per year to support their living expenses.  The information below is a Guide only for individual living expenses while in Australia.

Cost will vary greatly depending on which area you live in an dhow many people you share accommodation with.

Food

$75+ p/wk

This includes the price of groceries from supermarkets and an occasional lunch away from home.

Transportation

$15+ p/wks per week

Many students buy a weekly transort pass.  Again, the cost of transport will vary greatly depending on where you live in Sydney

Telephone

$20+ p/wk

Telephone usage is discretinary.  This will vary greatly depending on each students' use of mobile phoines, international calls, etc

Books:

$50 -$100
per book

Varies depending on the type of course.

Medical Expenses

$30

Your Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC )will cover most cost.  However, there are occasional costs (including consultations) which extend beyond the coverage of your medical plan.

Clothing

$50 p/mth

Clothing choices depend on students.  Many students bring most clothes from home and purchase a few items while in Sydney

Entertainment

$70 p/wk

This includes a film a dinner or night out, etc

Gas/Electricity

$10+ p/wk

If you share an apartment, the cost for utilities will decrease per person.
