Programme Orientation

The programme is designed for university graduates from any discipline seeking careers in the international hospitality industry. The programme develops the students` intellectual skills and competencies, in a manner appropriate to their abilities, interests and aspirations in preparation for management positions in the international hospitality industry. To foster cross-functional thinking, courses are combined into double weighted sessions and co-taught by two or more faculty members.

Learning Outcomes


The PGDip provides a challenging programme to allow students to assess, evaluate and reflect upon relevant management theories, models and current practices in the international hospitality industry. Candidates seeking management careers will demonstrate enhanced powers of critical analysis, synthesis and evaluation and can communicate effectively in a professional environment. Candidates will learn to make appropriate decisions at managerial level. The programme includes an optional six-month industry work experience.

 

Admission criteria


Admission to the programme normally requires a Bachelor degree or equivalent from a recognized university or education institution in any discipline. In exceptional cases, a candidate with no Bachelor degree or equivalent may be considered for admission if s/he has a track record of management experience in the hospitality and tourism industry and is able to demonstrate that s/he can benefit from the programme. Applicants for admission via Accreditation of Prior (Experiential) Learning (AP(E)L) will be considered individually by the Postgraduate Programme Director who will implement the relevant University procedures. English language proficiency of TEFL 550, IELT 6.0, or equivalent. Recommended minimum age of enrollment is 22 years. Applicants must submit a full Curriculum Vitae (Resumé), academic records and a 500-word essay on their personal career objectives as part of the admission process.
