OBJECTIVE
Our objective at the University Center "César Ritz" is the development of students who can excel in a rapidly changing world. As the hospitality and tourism industry develops higher standards of professionalism, our graduates will stand out and satisfy the demand for qualified managers in international corporations. POSTGRADUATE STUDIES
The hotel and tourism industries offer trained management candidates opportunities for career advancement and success in many different countries. For those students who already hold a degree from a recognized college or university, the University Center "César Ritz" offers two distinct postgraduate options:
MASTER OF
INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS IN HOTEL AND TOURISM MANAGEMENT (MIB) The Master of Business Administration degree in Hotel and Tourism Management is designed for university graduates from any discipline seeking to advance their careers in the international hospitality and tourism industries. It offers a balanced combination of professional and business management courses, progressing from a strong foundation in industry operations to more complex, strategic management perspectives.
The first three stages lead to an interim award, the Postgraduate Diploma in Hotel and Tourism Management. These three stages take a minimum of 8 months to complete, depending on the student’s previous academic history and capabilities. Graduates of the Postgraduate Diploma are eligible to progress to the final stage of the MIB program which requires students to work independently on preparation of a capstone industry project. A paid action learning placement of up to 6 months duration is a required component of the program to be completed in the Swiss hotel and restaurant industry, or in other countries. CAREER OPPORTUNITIES & PROSPECTS Graduates of the Master of
International Business in Hotel and Tourism Management have a wide variety of resources available to assist them in their career planning. Visits to the school by human resources personnel of major international hotel chains, guest lecturers, the Alumni network, the online "César Ritz" Network Society and CareerNet give all students the opportunity to find challenging positions worldwide.
Our unique Educational Forum, held twice yearly in the USA brings together students of "César Ritz" Colleges with the international hospitality industry, and the best opportunities for a successful career.
Depending on previous experience, graduates from the MIB degree may typically begin their career in the hospitality industry in management training after having completed a period of familiarization with the establishment. Students could also expect to begin their careers in areas related to their industry project. Advancement to higher positions is based on drive, determination, ambition and skills. MIB holders with extensive experience typically occupy senior positions in all areas of hotel administration, sales and marketing, human resources management, financial administration and planning. ACTION LEARNING PLACEMENT A paid industry placement is a required component of the program to provide an opportunity for students to apply their theoretical knowledge in workplace settings. This placement of up to 6 months duration allows students to adopt action learning principles in completion of their required industry project, which may be completed during the placement after the third term of study. To be eligible for an action learning placement in Switzerland, students must have completed 3 levels of elective language courses in German or French (or equivalent). ADMISSIONS CRITERIA Applicants to this program must hold a Bachelor's degree or equivalent in any discipline from a recognized academic institution, or a postsecondary academic diploma and relevant work experience at a supervisory level, and have proven fluency in the English language (minimum 550 TOEFL or equivalent).
