Vocabulary development

The vocabulary you need to read and write authentic legal documents in English.

Grammatical accuracy
Our courses recognise that speaking is the most important communication skill and our trainers will constantly correct your mistakes in both legal and general English.

The language of contract
Contract can be a particularly problematic area for young lawyers who are often expected to read and draft contracts in English as part of their employment. Studying the language of contract is central to your course and the differences in style, vocabulary and content of contract used in the UK and USA are analysed.

The language of business law
Most of our students are commercial lawyers who need a good foundation in this specialist area. Our language trainers have experience of working in business law together with expertise in language training.

Negotiating
Negotiating and interviewing are two of a lawyer's most important skills. We use the Inns of Court training videos and authentic case materials followed by role-play activities to help you perfect your speaking in realistic situations.

Court visits
Visits to the Royal Courts of Justice and the Central Criminal Court in London form an important part of your visit. With one of your trainers to hand to answer questions we visit the civil courts (The Royal Courts of Justice) and the world-famous criminal court, The Old Bailey.

The London Trip
We consider this day in the London law courts an integral part of your understanding of authentic legal English.

With one of your trainers on hand to answer questions, students on the Legal English Plus course visit the civil courts (The Royal Courts of Justice) and the world famous criminal court, The Old Bailey.

Cambridge UK - Students from the Cambridge Studio - Legal EnglishWe travel to London by private bus and spend the day visiting these famous legal institutions. The group normally has lunch together to discuss the issues raised by the visits to the courts. Very often we end the day with a group dinner and a night out at a west-end theatre.

It’s not all work!

We organise a series of optional social events to help you relax at the end of the day.

All courses held at Girton College, University of Cambridge.
* Course location may be changed because of University commitments

Private study

This is a typical week in our English for Law Student courses.  We will change the timetable to suit the needs of each group. Most students use the private study time to review and consolidate the day’s work and complete work which our trainers set.  We recommend that you should try to do between one and two hours of private study each day.
