Programs at Huron serve new and
existing students with enrolment possible at the beginning of Fall,
Spring and Summer semesters. In addition to normal academic offerings,
special summer programs are designed to support students preparing for
MBA studies, undergraduate Business Studies and other academic pursuits.
When applying to Huron University USA in London, the following
application procedures are recommended:
When to Apply
It is highly desirable that
international students apply for admission nine to 12 months before they
plan to enroll. This allows for ample time to complete visa procedures
and arrival preparations. This means that the complete file should be in
the Office of Admissions by that time, with the exception of
standardised test scores. Since the submission of these scores is not
entirely under the control of the applicant, these scores may arrive a
short time later.
Admission Deadline
Huron has an admission
deadline of one month prior to the semester starting date. Admissions
will be processed up to that deadline each semester. After that time,
any applications still pending will be considered for the following
semester. The purpose of the deadline is to allow sufficient time for
students to receive admission notification and complete the necessary
departure and visa formalities.
Application
All correspondence to the
student is sent to the address listed at the 'present address' on the
application form. Therefore, it is essential that you notify the
university whenever this address changes. Hall of Residence contracts
are also sent to the 'present address'. In addition to the application
form, the following items are needed to complete the application
materials:
 |
Original or certified
copies of academic records (transcripts).
Photocopies are not acceptable. If documents are not in English, an
official translation is required along with the original. |
 |
Description of all post-secondary coursework (undergraduate
applicants). |
 |
TOEFL/IELTS score reports. |
 |
Application fee of £40.00. |
 |
Two letters of
recommendation |
 |
One recent
passport-sized photographs of the applicant. |
Huron reserves the right to
require advance deposits from students in countries experiencing foreign
exchange difficulties, or in order to establish the commitment of an
individual or sponsor.
Transcripts
Applicants for admission
must have official transcripts of all high school work and, if
degree-seeking, of all previous college work on file with the Admissions
Office. Applicants may obtain request forms from the Admissions Office.
Applicants whose files are not complete will be permitted to register
for courses with the status of freshman on the understanding that their
transcripts will arrive within 30 calendar days after the beginning of a
semester. The transfer students' status will be re evaluated when
official transcripts are received. After the 30-day period, if an
applicant's file is not complete, the student may be administratively
withdrawn from all of his or her courses.

Descriptions of Post-secondary Coursework
Transfer applicants must
submit course descriptions (often included in the syllabus, prospectus,
or bulletin of an institution) for all post-secondary courses taken at
universities, colleges, or professional schools. The course description
should be in English and should include summaries or outlines of the
major topics covered in each course, the credit value of the courses (or
number of hours spent in each class weekly), and the length of the term.
The course description will be evaluated to determine whether advanced
standing may be given, and which courses would be appropriate for
transfer credit at Huron.
TOEFL / IELTS Score Reports
International students (including those transferring from US
schools) who are not native speakers of English are advised to have a
verified TOEFL score of 550 (paper-based test) or 213 (computer-based
test) or higher. For information regarding the TOEFL, enquire directly
to TOEFL Program Office, Educational Testing Service, P.O. Box 6151,
Princeton, NJ 08541-6151, USA, Tel. (609) 771 7100, e-mail: toefl@ets.org (www.toefl.org). For IELTS,
students require a 6.0 to gain access to our programs. For more
information about IELTS enquire directly to their web site. Students who
do not have these scores or their equivalent may be required to take an
English Language Assessment test on arrival at the university. The
results of this assessment will determine whether students are required
to complete English Language studies in the English Language Development
Program. The ELDP is designed to help students who have some basic
knowledge of English to develop both general and academic skills, in
order to ensure their success within the university and in the
increasingly international world.
Application Fee
There is a £40.00 non-refundable application fee. Applicants are
required to submit this fee before action will be taken on their
application. Do not send international reply coupons or cheques drawn on
banks outside the U.K.
Letter of Admission
If admission is granted, a Letter of Admission, housing application, and
other materials will be forwarded by airmail or express mail. The
appropriate visa eligibility certificate will be released by the
university after receipt of a tuition deposit of £400. Students who are
considered academically eligible for admission to Huron, but who have
failed to provide satisfactory evidence of adequate resources for
financing their program of study, will receive a letter explaining that
formal admission will be granted when the university has received
assurances regarding the necessary financial support.
Employment
Due to restrictions on employment, the university cannot issue a Letter
of Admission and visa authorization to any international student who
lacks sufficient financial resources to meet total expenses for their
entire program of study.

Level and Placement
Huron University USA in London considers the differences in educational
systems when placing international students. Each applicant's
educational background is carefully analysed on the basis of school
records and the educational program of the country in which the student
attended school. Applicants who have completed university degrees abroad
will be placed at a level dependent upon the length and content of the
program of study required to obtain those degrees. The fact that a
degree in another country may have a name similar to a degree in the US
or the U.K. does not necessarily mean that the degrees are similar or
that they will be accepted as equivalent.
Freshman Applicants
Students applying to undergraduate degree programs at Huron University
USA in London should have completed primary and secondary education. US
students will have had 12 years of education before entering Huron. In
English terms, this is equated with the satisfactory completion of five
or more passes at grade 'C' or better in the General Certificate of
Secondary Education. The high school certificates of other national
systems are also accepted. If you have passed at the Advanced Level of
the General Certificate of Education or have other qualifications such
as the International Baccalaureate, you will be eligible for advanced
placement which could amount to as much as one year's credit.
Transfer Applicants
Applicants who have attended an undergraduate university program either
in the United States or elsewhere, but who wish to complete their
Bachelor's degree at Huron University USA in London, must submit
detailed course descriptions of all post-secondary coursework they have
taken. Credits from a foreign institution recognized by that country's
Ministry of Education, or a US institution that is regionally
accredited, are normally accepted for transfer to Huron provided passing
grades are achieved and the courses are comparable to courses offered
for academic credit at Huron. Transfer students may transfer a maximum
of 63 semester hour credits from a two-year college, or 84 from a
four-year institution.
US Admissions Office
For students from the United States interested in study abroad or full
degree studies, our U.S. Admissions Office is available to assist you
from your initial inquiry, through your entire application process, and
finally with pre-departure details such as group flights and orientation
materials.
