Undergraduate Admissions

updated: 06-Apr-08

Undergraduate Programs Admission Requirements

Only applicants who have completed 12 years of primary and secondary education will be admitted into an undergraduate degree (see below for minimum grades required).
The decision to admit, or to refuse to admit, a student to Huron will be made by the Admissions Committee.

The admissions process is not completed until the student has fulfilled the requirements listed below.

Admission Requirements For:

Freshmen | Transfer Students | Advanced Placement | Former Students

Freshmen

The normal entry requirement for freshman students is successful completion of a US High School Diploma with a minimum of 'C' (GPA of 2.0 out of 4.0). Equivalent qualifications from other school systems are acceptable.
Among many factors which may be considered by the Admissions Committee are:
  1. The applicant's high school Grade Point Average. Huron seeks high school graduates who have earned a 2.00 or higher Grade Point Average on a 4.00 US scale. Weight will be given to the quality and difficulty of the secondary preparation. The Director of Admissions will be pleased to advise on equivalencies from other high school systems. For example, in the U.K. system, five GCSE passes at grade 'C' or better are required.
  2. Rank in Class. Where the size of the applicants graduating class is large enough to lend statistical validity to the consideration, an applicant's rank in his/her graduating class is considered.
  3. High School Recommendations. The Admissions Committee will give particular consideration to recommendations, written or verbal, given by high school guidance officers or from teachers who have personally taught the applicant.
  4. Personal Interviews. Personal interviews are recommended but not required. Impressions made by the applicant on Huron staff will be given weight in the final decision.
  5. An assessment of the student's chances of academic success at Huron.

Transfer Students

A maximum of 63 semester hours of credit will be accepted from junior college work towards a degree at Huron University USA in London. Up to 84 semester hours of credit may be transferred from senior colleges. In addition to the requirements above, a transfer student must meet the following criteria:

Transfer credit from an accredited college or university may be accepted at full value providing the student has maintained a 'C' average or better and the course can be applied to the curriculum of the Huron degree. If the student has not maintained a 'C' average at a particular institution, only courses in which the student has received a grade equivalent to a 'C' will be accepted. In no case will a course in which the student has received a grade equivalent to an 'F' be accepted.
Huron will accept transfer students from any accredited institution. However, if an applicant’s institution is a preferred partner college or university then they are entitled to receive special benefits.
Each transfer student must make an official application and have both his/her official high school and previous college transcripts sent to the Admissions Office.

Advanced Placement

A maximum of 30 credits of advanced placement will be accepted for qualifications taken at grade 13. Common examples include:

International Baccalaureate: applicants who have completed the IB diploma with a minimum overall score of 28 points and at least 4/7 in each subject at higher and standard level are entitled to 30 credits of advanced placement.

A level: Applicants with a grade of “C” or higher are entitled to 9 credits. Applicants with grade “D” or “E” are entitled to 6 credits.

Advanced Placement Examinations: Applicants with AP score 4 or higher are entitled to 6 credits. Applicants with an AP score of 3 are entitled to 3 credits.

Re-Admission of Former Students

A student who withdrew in good standing from Huron University USA in London does not have to re-apply for admission as long as he/she has not attended another university since his/her withdrawal. However, he/she should contact the Admissions Office regarding his/her intentions.
A student who has withdrawn from Huron University USA in London, transferred to another university or college, and who wishes to re-enter Huron, must submit official transcripts from all other colleges attended and re-apply through the Admissions Office.
A student who has been suspended for academic reasons cannot be enrolled for classes at Huron University USA in London for at least one semester. In order to be considered for re-admission, the student must apply to the Academic Standards Committee through the Office of the Provost.
