Introduction
This is a four year sandwich programme, operated in conjunction with Hogeschool Holland Business School in Amsterdam. At the end of the programme students will be awarded two degrees, one from each institution. In both the second and fourth years of the programme, Canterbury Christ Church students will be taught alongside a group of international students from Hogeschool Holland Business School (The programme is taught in English at both institutions). This will provide students with an opportunity to develop their understanding of the business world in an international context, through direct contact with colleagues from other cultural backgrounds.
The International Project based work placement in the third year involves paid employment within an international business organisation. The placement will either be abroad or within a multinational business organisation based in the UK. The placement offers valuable practical experience together with an opportunity to apply the theoretical concepts studied during the programme.
The aim of the programme is to reflect a range of developments in the international business world including:
The growth in the number of business organisations that have become more internationally orientated |
The range of communication technologies which make international business simpler and cost effective |
The move towards a customer-driven approach to business |
The change to flatter, decentralised and more flexible organisational structures |
The need for managers who are flexible, and have the ability to work in a multi-disciplinary group |
The
need to understand differing cultural and legal systems. |
The programme offers a retrospective and future oriented analysis of the significant changes impacting upon the global business environment. This will provide students with a framework for the critical evaluation of contemporary international business systems.
The programme also enables students to develop transferable skills appropriate for postgraduate study and career development within the business and management field. It is anticipated that students graduating from this programme will be granted a range of exemptions from professional bodies such as the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants, Chartered Institute of Bankers, Institute of Personnel and Development and the Chartered Institute of Marketing.
In March 2001 a quality assessment visit by the Quality Assurance Agency awarded Business and Management (which includes this programme) 21 points out of a possible 24. This highlights the quality of the programmes on offer at the College.
