Eligibility
Murray State University Global Scholarships are awarded on a competitive
basis to applicants who are citizens or permanent residents of countries
outside the United States. Applicants must first apply and be admitted
to an undergraduate or graduate program at Murray State University, and
submit evidence of the ability to pay the expenses that remain after the
scholarship is awarded. Students who have already begun study at Murray
State University are not eligible. The Global Scholarship may not be
used in conjunction with a graduate assistantship or other financial
support from Murray State University.
Provisions and Responsibilities
The Murray State
University Global Scholarship provides a waiver of the non-resident
portion of Murray State University tuition. The scholarship is renewable
each semester (up to eight semesters for undergraduate study or up to
four semesters for graduate study) on the condition that recipients
maintain a grade point average of at least 2.0 in undergraduate degree
programs or 3.0 in graduate degree programs at Murray State University.
The scholarship may be used during summer sessions at Murray State
University. Recipients will be eligible to seek on-campus employment of
up to 20 hours per week while classes are in session and full-time
during academic breaks and vacations. Please note, however, that (a)
receipt of the scholarship does not ensure the availability of on-campus
employment; (b) recipients of the scholarship will be expected to
contribute to and participate in intercultural programs on campus on
request.

Employment at MSU
The F-1 or J-1 visa allows on-campus employment for a maximum of 20
hours per week while classes are in session, and up to 40 hours per week
during university vacation periods.
Such work-study positions cannot be guaranteed, however, so applicants
cannot depend on student employment as a source of financial support.
International students may work off-campus only with the permission of
the Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS).
A variety of student work
positions are available at MSU, and IIS will assist students in learning
more about employment options during orientation after arrival.
Graduate Assistantships at MSU
Students admitted to graduate programs may compete for graduate
assistantships.
Most academic departments
award a limited number of graduate assistantships to highly qualified
students. Several of these are open to applicants who have been admitted
to the graduate program but have not yet enrolled.
Applicants interested in departmental assistantships may contact their
departments directly before they arrive. Graduate assistantships carry
work responsibilities, such as research or teaching duties. The award
provides a stipend as well as a reduction of out-of-state tuition. For
information, contact your graduate program director (from this link,
choose the college link for your program).
