Who Should Attend

The Certificate Program in International Business Operations is designed for mid-level and senior professionals in small, medium and large organizations who are planning to manage the starting or expanding of their business globally.

 

Overview

Certificate International Business and Operations 10 weeks International StudentsThe continued growth in international trade and the growing opportunities for boosting sales, increasing market share and ROI, finding raw materials, and lowering costs in international markets have greatly impacted businesses and how they operate. To compete in the global marketplace, professionals must learn the strategies, policies, norms and technology necessary to conduct international business, develop an overseas customer base and ultimately manage the international business operations. To be successful, business professionals must understand and develop the knowledge and skills necessary to manage the starting, or expansion of international operations.

 

REQUIREMENTS:

 

A university degree and/or substantial experience in an area related to the certificate you wish to pursue

The consent of the admissions committee

A minimum score of 197 on the TOEFL, (530 on the paper-based), 71 on the iBT, 710 on the TOEIC or other evidence of advanced English language proficiency (To increase your fluency prior to enrolling in a certificate program, consider our ESL options.)

Curriculum
 A certificate is awarded upon completion of the following six required courses in an accelerated format (one quarter long) and the Professional Communication Seminar with a grade of "C" or better in each course.

 

After you complete your certificate, you can also enroll in the Global Operations Management internship to gain practical, hands-on experience in the field for an additional fee.

Expanding Internationally: Structuring for Global Business
Understand how to increase business internationally and remain competitive in the changing world markets. Explore the different types of international business structures, learn how to market products and services overseas and gain firsthand knowledge about the tax and legal implications in dealing in either import or export transactions.

International Finance
Today's international business environment demands that all companies understand international financial matters and their impact on day-to-day business decisions. Learn how to work with foreign currencies, finance sales in foreign markets, use letters of credit and interface with import/export banks.

Import/Export: International Logistics and Supply Chain Management
Import and export activities far outpace domestic market growth. Explore the issues impacting the entry into an established market, financing, tariffs, customs, documentation, and distribution methods. Gain an understanding of the GATT and NAFTA terms and conditions, and the legal issues associated with global trade.

Global Marketing in the Electronic Business Environment
To stay competitive and capture global market share, businesses must keep pace with technological advancements and with global links and communications. They must continually re-examine e-business marketing strategies to best meet ongoing political and economic changes, trade alliances, and evolving social issues. This course focuses on international marketing and how to use practical, web-based shortcuts for addressing market opportunities. You'll use online market research to develop an international product, pricing, placement and promotional strategy. Topics also include how customer perceptions and cultural environments determine needs and how to satisfy those needs with B2B and B2C business.

Success in the areas of international business, marketing, and human resources depends on the skill of creating win-win solutions. Gain the knowledge and skills to plan, work, and negotiate successfully in the global marketplace. Learn about cultural differences as they affect doing business globally, the importance of hospitality and protocol, concepts of win-win and win-lose, and the characteristics of a good cross-cultural negotiator.

International Business Planning for Your Product or Service: A Capstone Course
Review aspects previously covered in the program and apply them in developing an actionable international business plan. Working in teams, you will select markets and products, research and analyze relevant information, develop an international marketing strategy, and specify financial requirements along with expected return on investment (ROI). The outcome will be a formal business plan and a
presentation of that plan to an "Executive Officer."

 

Internship
As an optional last course for an additional fee of $1,350, you have the opportunity to apply academic theory and gain practical experience in a variety of international business job functions. A research project provides additional training. Included in the internship is the Interviewing Skills and Resume Development Workshop.

 

Prerequisite: Completion of the requirements for the Global Operations Management Certificate.
