The Internship Program provides the opportunity to combine
classroom theory and personal skills with career-related experience.
Internships are supervised professional positions which give the student
the opportunity to work in a real world setting, take on workplace
projects, earn academic credit, learn new skills and concepts, and make
professional contacts. The program enhances the student's
educational background and career development through exposure to the
American business environment. An internship also increases
foreign language capacity, helps develop adaptability to different
environments, and gives the student contacts for developing future
goals. After completing a resume and interviewing workshop,
students are guided by UC Irvine staff in location an internship that
matches the student's career needs and interests. Student
interns are required to complete a final written project agreed upon
between the student and the internship coordinator, and this project is
evaluated at the end of the internship.
The internships are unpaid
positions lasting up to three months; most are in mid-size firms in the
growing high-tech business or tourist industry in Orange County, as well in the
greater Los Angeles area. |
