Optional Practical Training

Students participating in this program for two semesters are eligible to apply for Optional Practical Training (OPT). OPT is temporary, paid, employment for practical training purposes directly related to the student’s major area of study for a period up to 12 months. SDSU Career Services are available to assist students with identification of appropriate employment for a small additional fee. Interested students should notify the ALI Admissions office at the start of their program.

Course Descriptions:


Introduction to Hospitality and Tourism Management (required)

Overview of the hospitality and tourism industries with focus on basic management theories and principles as they apply to hospitality and tourism; basic structure, organization & management of industry components & the services/products they deliver.

 

Challenges of Leisure
Study of leisure and its impact on contemporary life; issues affecting recreation in today's urbanized society.

 

Commercial Recreation Management
Analysis of commercial recreation field, including design, development, programming and marketing aspects of various commercial recreation enterprises.

 

Tourism Planning
The development of tourism with emphasis on the industrial base, infrastructure and superstructure. The effects of tourism on geographical and spatial patterns, and economic and social institutions using econometric models.

 

Internship I in Hospitality and Tourism (required)
Up to 300 hours of quality work within the hospitality and tourism industry required during semester.
